TOLULOPE MAKINWA’S STORY

Tolu

I was addicted to pornography and masturbation. I tried to commit suicide so many times, as I battled with self-esteem, and was once introduced to lesbianism at age 8.

One afternoon, I went into my dad’s room, saw my mum’s purse and took some money. The next day, I took some more and before I knew it, I was stealing. After about 2 or 3 years, one day I got back from church and started crying. I confessed to my brother.

I then told myself, “Tolu you can’t continue this way.” I felt really worthless. One night, I was alone in my room and opened a scripture randomly. It was Matthew 10:31, which says, “Do not be afraid, you’re worth much more than many sparrows…” That word changed my life.

I began to see the life God had called me to live. I found relevance in him. Although I was still going through some challenges giving up my old habits, but they began to die.

Now I’m 21, the author of the book, Purpose Journey and the convener of a ladies ministry.
