ADETOLA’S STORY

Adetola

My elder brother taught me how to play drums when I was 7 years old.

I attended a secondary school where music was good and I became a star. But the truth is, playing the drums was just a hobby for me. I became the music prefect in SS1 and was so, till I graduated.

I wasn’t thinking of studying music, I just loved it. I wanted to study Law or International Relations. The fire of music was burning so much inside me, that during my WAEC, I went for an all-night rehearsal a day before I had Math exams, lol. It was so crazy.

I studied music at the University of Lagos. it was difficult at first in 100 & 200 level, because I was not exposed to the theory of music. But, I continued and gained balance in year 3.

After NYSC, I was a bit discouraged thinking, I won’t make it with my degree in music, but the Holy Spirit said, “Have you not seen poor doctors, poor lawyers and poor teachers. It is the blessings of God that makes rich and adds no sorrow.” So that was the turning point for me.

I did my masters in Music and finished with a very good grade and I’m currently writing my thesis for a PHD.
