MORENIKE’S STORY

Morenike

I was kicked out of school in my final year because my CGPA was below 1.0. I was studying Geology. It was a really hard time for me and my self-esteem was shattered. I always had faith that God would do something and my results would get better, because I was reading. I was hoping for a miracle but nothing happened.

Luckily for me, I’d always known that I wanted to do something in fashion after Geology, so it was an easy switch for me. I’d already started going to a tailoring school for about 6 months. I travelled to South Africa to do a diploma course in fashion. My self-esteem was so low that I just needed God to prove to me that I wasn’t dumb.

My grades were really good. In my second year, I was the only Nigerian and the first black student to win the best student of the year. This gave me assurance that I was not empty on the inside.

I still desire to get my degree done as I have grown my work experience and skill level within the fashion industry.

I currently work as the Project Manager for the Human Capital Development Initiative Center in Apapa. I thank God that I’m not the same girl who thought she was a failure a few years ago.
